What is Makhana?
Makhana is also known as foxnut phool makhana or lotus seed which is a part derived from lotus plant. This makhana is very popular in Indian cuisine and has iron, calcium, protein, carbohydrates, etc, it has low calories and high nutrient content. This makhana is easy to make and can be stored in an airtight container. This makhana has a mild flavor so you can spice it up with any spices to get an extra flavor as per your choice and preference. Makhana is very popular in Bihar states due to its cultivation. The makhanas are found in the marshy areas which are wet and easy to cultivate. This makhana is very popular to have while watching films and enjoying the time of watching popular shows etc. This makhana is organic and has been found since the times of Ayurveda. About The Makhana Recipe
This makhana recipe became my all-time favourite as I know it from my sister in law. During my summer vacation, when I visited my brother's house, I enjoyed a lot there. During that time I was more focused on my weight loss journey, my sister-in-law informed me about this makhana recipe. I tasted this roasted makhana recipe since that time it became my favourite dish. This makhana is very healthy, delicious, it's not heavy but keeps one fuller for a longer period.
Ingredients
* 2 to 3 cups of makhanas or foxnuts
* 1 to 2 tablespoons of salted butter or as required
* Black pepper powder or as required.
* Rock salt as required
Step 1) Take a frying pan and add 1 tablespoon or 2 tablespoons of butter or as required as per your choice or preference.
Step 2) Melt the butter on the kadai but do not overheat it as the butter will get burnt.
Step 3) Add 2 to 3 cups of makhana or foxnuts to the melted butter.
Step 4) Stir the makhana continuously on a medium flame so that the makhana gets covered with butter.
Step 5) Stir the makhana for 9 to 10 minutes on a medium flame.
Step 6) Press the makhana after its yet to pop from inside. After the makhana becomes mild and crispy, add ½ tablespoon of rock salt or as required as per your taste and preference.
Step 7) Mix the makhana properly and see that it does not get overcooked. Roast the makhana properly and as it becomes crispy switch off the oven.
Step 8) Place the roasted makhanas on a plate and add the black pepper powder as required depending upon your choice and preference.
Step 9) The salted crispy makhanas are ready to serve and you can place this makhanad in an airtight container and have it as and when required.
1) Proper quality of butter or ghee:- While roasting the makhanas see that you use proper quality of butter or ghee and in proper quantity. Do not overuse it as it will turn oily. If you are health conscious, try to avoid butter and ghee instead use olive oil as per your choice.
2) Various seasonings:- Not only black pepper powder but you can also use other spices like chaat masala, turmeric, and cinnamon as per your taste. Seasonings you can use as per your choice which will make the makhanas tangy and hot flavour.
3) Properly cook it:- After roasting the makhanas spread it on a plate to allow it to cool to prevent them from becoming soggy. After it comes to the normal temperature you can replace it with the airtight container.
4) Low to medium hit:- While roasting the makhanas try to roast them in low to medium hit to prevent them from burning from bottom.
5) Avoid keeping in a wet place:- Try to keep the makhanas in sunlight which will exclude moisture and will stay fresh for a longer period.
